I am very pleased to say that I have seen a male Smooth snake at my NARRS site this morning. Unfortunately couldn't get any photos but I am 100% certain about the identification as I was very close. There had been no sightings here for 10 years and it was widely believed they had died out in the area.

Nice to meet you too Will. Actually got all 8 species in the end. Saw a Grass snake and two Adders at the head.

Well it's good to hear they've been found at a site after that period of time. Perhaps it may be an idea to check other sites that they have thought to have died out at.
I popped down to a site in the New Forest where I saw a couple a couple of weeks ago, despite the weather being pretty good, I never any. I did see a Grass Snake and a melanistic Adder whilst I was walking back to the car. Must take a trip to Dorset soon -hopefully the weather will be favourable when I have the time off to do so.
