Not a description of your local conservation organisations attitude to herps - but a whole new species of lizard found in Essex today. The Fence Lizard! We had much entertainment today watching this little guy scale one of those wooden 6ft panels to sit on the top. This is one our babies from last year so I'm dead proud of him. Saw the first adult out and about in the garden today also, nice brightly coloured male. Spent a good couple of hours watching them both forage over our log pile.

Nice lizard but different from the Fence Lizard we have in Malaysia.. Ours are the Calotes versicolor species. I keep a couple of them in my terrarium. It's fun watching them especially at feeding time !!!
