... took place as planned. Ten people attended, and had a good morning, managing to find some animals. Weather was showery, with a strong breeze and mostly overcast. We saw one common lizard under a felt and two others out and about in braken. A good find for the site was a Great Crested Newt under a felt. No sightings of the resident Grass Snakes - I've seen none out basking this year and the consensus seems to be that this has been a poor year for seeing them generally. Some other good records on the day - a Migrant Hawker dragonfly, a Lesser Stag Beetle, a Wasp Spider and an (active) Hornet's nest. The ponds which earlier in the year were home to Palmate Newts (and which at his time of the year would normally have mostly dried-up)now contained a large number of adult Great Diving Beetles - which presumably would have made a quick meal of any amphibian that had not moved onto the land... Hi Steve sorry to hear that the weather ruined the Bartly heath trip for sightings, Also cant be good conditions for the this years new reptiles to prepare themselves for the dormant period can it ,keith
