Hi all...

Was out walking my dog today when I came across
This snake!

Was pretty shocked, it was in the verge
By a hedge....

I went and got my partner and we think after research it's
A grass snake? Or adder?

When we returned the snake was actually dead....😕

Here's a picture

hi there

this is a grass snake. I can see no signs of injury (although younger eyes than mine might!) so it may actually be feigning death - something grass snakes are very good at. As against this I note there was a period of time between first and second timing which suggests, sadly, that it really was dead.

all the best

Looks pretty dead to me. Perhaps the victim of a human or dog attack, or maybe a car if it was on the roadside (doesn't look squashed though).

Hard to see the size but head looks quite broad so presumably a female - possibly travelling in search of an egg-laying site at this time of year.

Thanks for your reply.
Sadly it was dead as I walked past it again 24hours after this post!

Also I couldn't see any obvious signs of injury either 😕
