No really, this is not a joke. I will hill walking close to Loch Ness on Saturday, April 29, 2006 when I spotted this. It's been on the back of my mind since to find out what it was.

Sorry the pic quality is not great as I only got one quick shot before it ran off, from memory it was about 4 inches long. We were not near any water so thought it was a lizard rather than a newt.

Can anyone say what it is?

Hi Jim

Firstly, sorry for the delay in authorising this and replying due to lack of internet access!

Definitely not a baby Loch Ness monster - but I guess you knew that!LOL

This is actually a common lizard (better called a viviparous lizard as they are being coming rapidly less common). Looks like it is a female as I can make out creases on the side suggesting that she has given birth recently.
