+1. Looks like a pretty uniformly coloured one - sometimes called a 'concolor' morph, I think.

i think it was the uniform brown-ness that foxed us a little - normally they are more vibrant in colour - thanks very much!

I know what you mean, I had a toy monitor lizard that looked a bit like that when I was a kid.
