I'm enjoying those palmate pics, Suz - made me want to take some of my own.  I live near some woodland that has several decent (ie shady, acidic) palmate ponds.  These were released within a few minutes of having their photos taken; one female was a beautiful mix of gold and green marbling.

thanks guys, one female palmate in particular was beautifully marked and genuinely had a golden ground colour to her.

Lovely Will. So much better to get the light on their sides through glass, shows up all their markings. The tail filament also looks very good. Many of mine just look light mud coloured when photographed from above.

thanks Suz, the ones from the shadier ponds seem to have more marbling to them, I think, whereas the ones which come from ponds with sandy substrates are paler and more uniform in colour. This could be because individuals can change colour to a degree but also some natural selection for basic colouration I think.
