All,

The Food and Environment Research Agency have positively identified Asian Longhorn Beetles in Kent (press release attached). It's a pest species and the first time it has been found in the UK.

Keep your eyes peeled if you are out surveying or wandering around the countryside near the site.

They're pretty distinctive, ID guide below

Duncan, the text is clear enough but the images very blurred (pixilated?) so I wouldn't be able to ID one from them.

Thanks Gemma.
It's all very well looking out for these critters but what can be done about them? Nothing I suspect.

Seems billions has been spent to eradicate them in the US - as the source is China and we buy most of our manufactured goods from China no doubt there will be very little we can actually do to stop them spreading in this country. If I found them I would report the find, but I have to be honest I don't spend a lot of my time looking up at trees.
