Hi Everyone

I wanted to let people know that a challenge has been laid down at a nature reserve in Basildon Essex. Can we create 50 ponds in just 24hours!

I would like to find people who would be willing to come and help dig fifty new ponds to benefit amphibians and local grass snakes.

Do contact me if you can make either day!

Count me in on the Sunday. I'm having enough trouble with one pond at the moment (rotavator is stuck in 18 inches of wet clay with a burnt out clutch and drive belt) but this project sounds very worthy of support. Thumbs Up

Here is the result - 44 ponds (aka holes in the ground) in 6.5hours!

We managed to get to 50 ponds on the Sunday - in total we had almost 30 people digging ponds by hand. We have applied to the Guiness World Records to see whether we can claim the world record for digging ponds by hand but we will have to wait and see next spring to see how the ponds behave.

Well done Jon. And, especially the 30 volunteers who made it happen.
