A course in monitoring lizards in dune habitat, and in particular Sand Lizards, has been arranged for the week commencing 10th May in West Wales. It will center around the Tywyn, Gwynedd area and will commence on the morning of Tuesday 11th May with the first day being spent learning about the lizards, how they may be identified, the ways in which they utilise the habitat and how best to see them. This will be followed throughout the week by field trips to local re-introduction sites where techniques can be learnt in the real habitat and, with luck, we will actually see some of the animals.

Trainees will be responsible for arranging their own transport and accommodation if necessary and a packed lunch will be needed for each day.

This course is open to people who wish to actively participate in both monitoring existing Sand Lizard populations within Wales as a whole and for carrying out absence/presence surveys in dune systems to which they have not yet been re-introduced. There are still vacancies.

The course is being arranged by South West Wales ARG in co-operation with Amphibian and Reptile Conservation. To apply, please contact Chaela Carrell ( mailto:c.carrell@npt.gov.uk - c.carrell@npt.gov.uk ).
