As the newt survey season approaches, and in an effort to be environmentally conscience and use best practice methodology, we are looking for recommendations of a biodegradable anti-bacterial agent in which to wash our bottles in post-survey in order to reduce/eliminate cross-contamination of pond nasties. Any suggestions?

I use bleach for sterilising equipment used in ponds and also captive amphibian tanks, so no argument there David. I totally agree that the cheaper brands are the most suitable, a tiny amount goes a very long way. I would only add that it is best to avoid bleaches that say 'pine' or 'alpine' on the bottle as there is evidence that pine fragrances may be detrimental to amphibians. Edited by administrator |
