Looking back at the photos and the ground is bare and flat so a heavy machine would be necessary to rut it up and help create decent 'windrows' for the reptiles to colonise. This sort of habitat has been shown to be the best to create in this situation. Burying the arisings would be key to prevent further fires as this site has many fires due to arson

Hi Jon,
The site itself is managed by Hampshire County Council so I'd imagine they'd know more than me about what has gone on, at this point. I managed to see the tail-end of a retreating common lizard towards the main heath, but that's about it in terms of reptiles. If you manage to get up to the site this week, let me know and I'll pop down. Cheers, James.

Wolfgang, the area involved is a relatively small heather patch with a few small gorse bushes, etc. It may seem insignificant, however this could have an effect on this site and that's what has P'd me off. If this is somebodies idea of a joke, then it's not funny! I don't have a sense of humour when it comes to the critters I love most at the best of times........... I'm going to pop up there again some time in the week when we have more sun to see if I can catch (not literally) adders basking. I haven't personally seen them there, however I know of sightings, and MH spotted a melanistic a little while ago. GS also used to check the site out quite often when he lived down here.
