Unhappy
Saw quite a lot of either infertile or ruined frog spawn today. Thousands, literally.

Had a couple of clumps in my pond, both of which were from a second spawning period after all the cold weather, the stuff that went through the frost and snow all survived and the pond is full of tadpoles...

The same here, all seem to have been Infertile so no tadpoles Cry ( well none seen as yet) this year either (2nd year on the trot) Only had 2 clumps, one which disappeared overnight ( either a Fox or Badger we suspect) have seen 1 newt not been able to identify yet Wink ...oh well hope it improves next yearSmile

the thing is I watched a newt and it appeared to be eating the runined toad spawn.

That newt appears to still be an eft, maybe overwintered, pretty interesting, although it may just be feeding off the micro-fauna which are feeding off the spoiled eggs..
