Unfortunately another dead one reported to me from the Peak District yesterday. The person who found it also found a buzzard feather close by.

That is what one would expect from a raptor attack, not a few marks on the ventral scales, Any raptor that has the claws in immediately goes to work with the beak so the explanation that the grass snake scars are due to raptor attacks seems a little flimsy.
