10.30am-12.30pm.  Join Hampshire Amphibian and Reptile Group as they go in search of reptiles on Bartley Heath Wildlife Reserve. You will hopefully see some reptiles, learn more about reptile recording in Hampshire and pick up some reptile survey tips from the experts. Meet at Bartley Heath Wildlife Reserve (Map ref. SU 730 534). Parking is limited, so please share cars if possible. Booking is essential, so for further details and to book your place, please contact Natalie Rogers on 01489 774406. Suggested donation ú1.50. Sorry, no dogs.

... took place as planned.  Ten people attended, and had a good morning, managing to find some animals. Weather was showery, with a strong breeze and mostly overcast.  We saw one common lizard under a felt and two others out and about in braken.  A good find for the site was a Great Crested Newt under a felt.  No sightings of the resident Grass Snakes - I've seen none out basking this year and the consensus seems to be that this has been a poor year for seeing them generally.

Some other good records on the day - a Migrant Hawker dragonfly, a Lesser Stag Beetle, a Wasp Spider and an (active) Hornet's nest.  The ponds which earlier in the year were home to Palmate Newts (and which at his time of the year would normally have mostly dried-up)now contained a large number of adult Great Diving Beetles - which presumably would have made a quick meal of any amphibian that had not moved onto the land...
