Dave,

The downside of growing up in the Lake District was the clegs (horseflies to southerners) and mosquitoes!

Swimming in a lake any bit of you stuck out of the water might get clegged and mossies made a meal of you whilst fishing, especially when night fishing.

We never wore shorts!

Suzi, just putting some refuges out this evening in the rain and still got clegged as you call it but they left Mick who was with me alone, still a grass snake popping up when we were least expecting it,made the bites worth while.
