ALGE (Association of Local Government Ecologists) forwarded information yesterday that despite all the protests, NERC has announced that it is going ahead with the closure of 4 of its Centre of Ecology and Hydrology research stations. Therefore Monks Wood, which has a high profile for biological recording/biodiversity & climate change, is to shut and staff that are not amongst the 160 being made redundant will be dispersed to the remaining 4 sites. You can read a news item on it at BBC news http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4801814.stm or the NERC press release at http://www.nerc.ac.uk/publications/latestpressrelease/2006-1 3ceh.asp |

Absolutely mind-boggling.
Can someone remind me what the "E" in NERC stands for? Cheers, Wolfgang |
