Hi everyone

I would like to enquire whether there are any low cost GIS systems which can be used at home to map out sightings etc

Regards

JC

Have you tried Map Maker? You can download a free version at:

http://www.mapmaker.com/

It can plot GPS waypoints over a base map, useful for producing a visual representation of where animals are on a site. It also has a very useful tool for shading different areas to represent habitat suitability for example.

I've found the results from Map Maker good enough to use for survey reports and mitigation proposals.
