Hi All - thought people might like to know of events that are planned for 2006 in Essex - all are welcome please contact the EARG to find out latest details 

 

January

 

1. Mill Meadows, Billericay û Pond creation for the common frog Rana temporaria winter habitat management task û contact Ray Cranfield 01702 540600 14th January 2006

 

2. Belfairs Park, Southend û Scrub bashing on a new viviparous lizard site winter management task 29th January 2006 û contact Ray Cranfield 01702 540600

 

February

 

3. Magnolia LNR, Hawkwell û Pond management and scrub bashing winter management task [largest newt population in Essex] û contact Ray Cranfield 01702 540600

 

4. Curry Farm, Bradwell û Pond management, scrub bashing and setting up reptile survey û [private site] û contact Ray Cranfield 01702 540600

 

5. Bonners Barn, Peldon û Reptile Survey set up û a field meeting to go over the survey protocols for 2006 û [private site] û contact Jon Cranfield 07769 644354

 

March

 

6. Little Leighs, Chelmsford TL 720 167 û Toad patrol û help rescue toads migrating across a country lane to their breeding ponds [largest toad population in Essex] û volunteers to monitor breeding ponds also required û contact David Scott û 01245 361475

 

7. Writtle College Chelmsford TL 676 070û Toad patrol & frog survey û The second largest toad colony after Little Leighs (see above) û volunteers needed to monitor the breeding toads and to map their migration routes û contact Jon Cranfield 07769 644354 û

 

[These events will be dependant on the prevailing weather û a very cold February and March may delay these events until late March early April keep in contact for up to date information]

 

April

 

8. Hadleigh Castle Country Park Castle Point û Amphibian & Reptile Survey û Monitoring the new habitats created by the Essex Countryside Ranger Service û plus adder monitoring û contact Ray Cranfield 01702 540600

 

9. Thorndon Country Park, Brentwood û Amphibian & Reptile Survey û field meeting to establish a reptile survey and to undertake a monitoring survey of the new ponds created over the winter û contact Ray Cranfield 01702 540600

 

10. Cudmore Grove Country Park, Mersea Island û Reptile survey û A fantastic site with a superb reptile assemblage û contact Jon Cranfield 07760 644354

15. Mardyke River & Davy Down Country Park, North Stifford TQ 593 799 û Marsh Frog survey A newly discovered water frog population which has spread over the Mardyke catchment û volunteers needed to help count the numbers of frogs û contact Jon Cranfield 07769 644354
