I’ve just discovered and joined this forum so hope this is appropriate to post.
I created a wildlife pond in my garden 4 years ago and have many frogs and tadpoles but a few days ago I was very excited to discover a newt in there. Saw it again today and it appears to be pregnant but I haven’t seen any others. What should I expect next? Will she attract a male? I do have water forget me not in the pond which I believe they like for egg laying. Anything else I can do? |

This post has only just shown up for me.
Good for you putting a pond in for wildlife. I think that if there are newts about (and frogs) they will find your pond and use it. There are perhaps a few more things you might allow to grow in your pond - search the Internet for ideas. Water Forget Me Not is good for starters, yes. Have you plenty of vegetation for your creatures when they are living out of the pond? Places for them to hide? Piles of wood and stones are good.

I check the forum every day and this post has just shown for me too!
Well done on getting the newt, I was very surprised to see on tin my pond after many years absence a few years back and now have a thriving community, with many juveniles. Their reappearance coincided with my leaving a large part of the garden 'untouched' with logs and a compost heap too, this seems to have made all the difference here.
