Your pond is looking amazing Ben, so well established and amphibian friendly looking.

Since the rain this afternoon we've had thunder and lightning this evening and the temp is down to 4degC. The water in the larger pond is churned up with silt after the rain. This photo 8pm.

No sign of anything here this morning. We've had snow and hail, some sun.

Looks quite dusty Dave, so maybe not long out of the ground?

Slow worms were a no show yesterday. Today just the youngster basking under cover.
Temp falling rapidly after dark and almost frosty now. This was the only newt that gave a reasonable view to photograph. It was 3deg then. |

At long last managed to get out to the moors today, where it was cloudy
and still very windy. However a few adders were about and eventually saw
8 spread over 5 sites. They were mostly well hidden in the vegetation,
so here's one that was more visible.
However it was disappointing to see more habitat flattened by the cattle grazing introduced a few years ago. Also with funding from the Forestry Commission several acres of adder habitat are being turned into woodland and they have made a start on the tree planting. However have heard that they are already having deer damage, so once the leaves come out of the top of the guards hopefully they will get eaten off. |
