Hi

I am a PHD student at Salford University currently undertaking various investigations regarding migration cues of great crested newts. I also plan to undertake a comprehensive study of the great crested newt Habitat Suitability Index (as this is a subject I can assess outside of the great crested newt season).

I have managed to gather some useful data, however, I still require much more.

I wondered if anyone out there has used the index and if so would it be possible for you to provide me with the following information to help with my project:

  • Individual suitability index scores (SI1 - SI10);
  • HSI score;
  • Location (I do not need to know the exact location, region or 10km grid square would be sufficient); and,
  • Max adult great crested newt count (if present).

I am very grateful for any records, particularly ponds where no great crested newts have been found but are within close proximity (500m) of ponds with known great crested newt populations.

Also could you please provide me with the contact details of anyone who you feel may be able to help me.

Thank you for your time,

Neil Madden

I would suggest talking to Dr Lee Brady - I have also got data relating to ponds I have surveyed over recent years
