Battlesbridge - Tidal Flood Defence Scheme -

Please find time to read through this scoping report and send in any comments regarding the mitigation proposed for reptiles - slowworm, lizard and adder - apparently the report will be at http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/yourenv/consultations/1 139234/?version=1&lang=_e

I haven't found the report on here yet the advert will be in the local press tomorrow - so i would imagine the report will be on the website later this week

By all means send in any comments on the scheme and any other scheme on the EA website - these seawalls and embankments are important for reptiles and other wildlife and we need to ensure that the EA and their contractors are taking steps to conserve reptiles in respect of the law.......

Regards

JC

Update on the flood defences at Battlesbridge - Indeed the site was and is a key site for all four species of reptile - also the water vole live on this site which hopefully will benefit from a new pond and an enlarged fishing lake -

The EARG are in discussions with the EA to see whether the reptiles can be monitored over the coming years - the animals which were rescued from the site were liberated on adjacent habitat and were all photo id'd and so we are hoping to track individuals through the survey over the coming years

it will be interesting to record the successful recolonisation of the new flood defence and also to actually get involved with post 'development' monitoring

Regards

JC

PS anyone in the local area who would like to get involved with these surveys please email the EARG essex_arg@hotmail.com
