A snake-like creature found in pond

We have recently built a pond in our gardena and populated it with fish.

Today we found a very thin (when I say thin I mean no thicker than very thin wire) snake like creature. It was about 20cm long and was able to support it's "head" end much like a snake does. It was olive green in colour. It swims like a snake aswell.

Does ahine have any idea what this might have been, as it was too small, I think, to have been a baby snake or slow-worm?

Could it maybe have been a Lightning Worm (Horsehair Worm). They are parasites of insects and some species are aquatic.
