Gassing was stopped in 1982 following experiments at Porton down which showed that the cyanide gas used did not work well on badgers.The teams out in the field were told to stop immediately and return to the office.

thanks for sharing andy. enjoyed those!

heres a couple of field signs of Meles meles;

a DOWN (dug-out-wasp-nest);

Larvaelicious to a badger.
although their thick coats defend them from angry wasps, they must get stung around the eyes and on the oh-so-sensitive nose.

some 60% of badger diet is worms and this being the case, badger poop is usually dark brown/black and slimy.
however, warm weather sending the worms down (and availability of farm cereals) means MM turns veggie. thus;

thanks for posting.

according to someone we know who was there at the time kev, the footage shot by Porton Down of "experimental" badgers being gassed (it was filmed through one way glass in an artificial sett) was so horrific that the then Minister of Agriculture ordered that the filmic evidence be destroyed.
