Sand lizards are fully greened up and ready to go! I saw something that I haven't properly seen before yesterday at a site in Purbeck which was a full-on fight between 2 evenly matched males. They were at the bottom of a heathery bank and met half way along it, squared up to each other like 2 alley cats and then, presumably because of their equal size, it quickly escalated into a full on bite and fight contest, just like two male Komodo dragons on the telly, only a bit smaller. After a few minutes the more yellow of the two was the winner, and the other beat a hasty retreat, apparently uninjured except for his pride. thanks Tim, I was chuffed to see such a struggle happening at my feet, though you couldn't help feeling sorry that such beautiful creatures were trying to destroy each other...
