As the newt survey season approaches, and in an effort to be environmentally conscience and use best practice methodology, we are looking for recommendations of a biodegradable anti-bacterial agent in which to wash our bottles in post-survey in order to reduce/eliminate cross-contamination of pond nasties. Any suggestions?

I use bleach for sterilising equipment used in ponds and also captive amphibian tanks, so no argument there David. I totally agree that the cheaper brands are the most suitable, a tiny amount goes a very long way.

I would only add that it is best to avoid bleaches that say 'pine' or 'alpine' on the bottle as there is evidence that pine fragrances may be detrimental to amphibians.
