I've heard a handful of reports of active GCN in ponds already this year, but just to show some are still very torpid, this guy was under a plank today barely moving.
We checked him a couple of hours later and he was in the process of sloughing. And one more piccy just to show off my EFS - 60mm macro lens |

Ta Al, was glad we did find him, 4 hours of survey at a site this morning only him and a single common lizard to be seen. Still, this afternoon made up for that

Ray reported that 37 newts were spotted crossing a path at a local nature reserve in Essex a few nights ago - up to 10 adults in the water. Within a large flood reservoir up to 10 adults within water and a further 19 around the grassland perimeter - smooth newts though he couldnt count there was so many 100s+ Regards Jon
